COMPETITION REGISTRATION

Attention all Student Woodwind, Brass and Percussion players!

The Pacific Symphonic Wind Ensemble is looking for an outstanding soloist

  • Perform as a featured soloist with a world-class wind ensemble

  • $1500 in prizes

  • Receive top-level coaching

  • Take home a professional video recording of the experience.

This is a biennial event, alternating with our Youth Composers Competition.

The competition has three phases:

  • Phase One - A YouTube link to a video recording with piano accompaniment to be sent to Chair Chuck Currie at reedguy@telus.net after applying.  A solo piece of your choice from our competition syllabus, available with wind ensemble accompaniment. 5 - 12 minutes long, one movement is acceptable. You may propose a different selection for our approval to the chair. The application fee is $50.  A detailed review of your performance is provided by our adjudicators.

  • Phase Two - Up to six finalists are selected for a live audition with piano accompaniment with an adjudication panel in November.  All soloists receive detailed feedback from the panel on their performance musically, technically, and regarding stage deportment.

  • Phase Three – The winner rehearses with the ensemble in the spring.

  •  Phase Four – The winner will perform their piece with the Pacific Symphonic Wind Ensemble in early June.  This concert will be recorded on video so that the winner has a record of their performance that may be used for their musical resumes and further development.

  • The winner receives a scholarship of $500 cash, a $500 gift certificate from Tapestry Music, and a professional concert video with a production cost of $500.  PSWE retains the right to use the video to promote this competition.

  • Contact Chuck Currie at reedguy@telus.net for non-syllabus repertoire approval.
